From their humble beginnings, shorts have now entered the style arena with force.

Traditionally associated with schoolboys during the first half of the 20th century, shorts only became acceptable for men in certain outdoor or athletic activities from the 1930s onwards. As the decades wore on, shorts morphed from being super short and tight (70s basketball stars) to long and baggy (skater boys). Fast-forward to this century and shorts have built up some serious style cred over the past few years, becoming a staple in well-dressed men’s summer wardrobes. Printed, subtly pleated or on the slender side, paired with the perfect T-shirt or a casual blazer, the shorts of this season have similar tailoring to their longer counterparts.

We probably have to thank designer Thom Browne for getting this sartorial ball rolling. Known for impeccably cut yet shrunken silhouettes, his trouser hems not only have been creeping up and up each season, but he also has wholly advocated the suit jacket with shorts. Legions of stylish men around the world quickly adopted the Thom Browne aesthetic, proving in the process that bare legs could look supremely stylish.

So for S/S 2011, you’ll find a huge variety of shorts with and without a matching blazer. Raf Simons for Jil Sander went for a shorter length and colour-blocking to much acclaim, while 3.1 Phillip Lim tackled leather shorts for men elegantly. More neutral trouser shorts were also seen on the catwalks at Bottega Veneta, Dries van Noten and Prada, to name a few. It may have taken nearly a hundred years, but lucky for you, shorts are finally hitting their stride style-wise.

The G-shock x Subcrew Limited Edition watch has redesign some details and accents, rather than the usual print on the watch. We’ve put the Shark marine’s teeth and eye patterns on the watchstrap, with the eye-catching yellow/green colour combination that meet the shark marine theme. As you can see on the picture, a Shark marine pattern has been added on the LED backlight, makes the watch become more prominent on the darkness. On the backside, a Subcrew Logo has been engraved as well as the individual serial number. We will include a Shark marine doll together with the watch as a set for sale.

The G-Shock x Subcrew Shark marine watch is limited of 100 pieces, and each one has engraved with a specific serial number from 001 – 100. There will be  small amount available in our Online Store only, so all Subcrew fans must not miss it!! (but i think all must be SOLD OUT*)

rolled_pants_4_473534Where’s the flood, guys?

Judging by the number of bared ankles appearing on the streets this summer, the rolled cuff look of 2009 appears to have become the rolled cuff epidemic of 2010. Legions of young men, including ones who are not bicycle messengers, are rolling up their pants legs to such high-water lengths that one is tempted to inquire where exactly the auditions for the Huckleberry Finn revival are being held. A style born on the shores of the Mississippi has been reinvented for the streets of Bushwick.

Every five years or so, the fashionable male discovers some styling trick to make the same old thing wearable in a dandy new way – the deep jeans cuff, the double-flipped shirt-sleeve cuff – and the next thing you know, men are trying it in Midtown.

The newest look, a lightly pinched cuff that should fall about an inch or two above the ankle, is likely a result of two factors. First, the skin-baring shrunken-suit style popularized by Thom Browne has, by now, become as acceptable to the mainstream as flat-front khakis. And second, the glorified boat shoes and retro canvas sneakers on the market seem to cry out to be worn with pants that will show them off. (A third, less likely factor might be the heat.)

“As cropped pants have become such a style, this is an easy way to get around shortening your pants by three inches,” said Josh Peskowitz, the style editor of Esquire.com, who had rolled up his pants that very morning. “It’s noncommittal.”

Getting the roll right is harder than it looks, and the experts differ on technique. Julian suggests rolling one inch of cuff three times for cotton canvas trousers, and a single two-inch cuff for dark jeans.

For slightly looser pants, like chinos, Peskowitz advises creating a peg by pinching the fabric slightly at the front during the rolling process. Starting from the bottom, you flip once, making as small a fold as possible, then twist the front of the pants leg by about an inch, then roll twice more while holding the pinch tightly. The pleats should stay in place.

"You want to make sure that both are pointing inward – for the left side, fold it to the right. For the right, fold it to the left – to stay symmetrical,” he said. “I just figured that out a couple of weeks ago."

By the way, there are several don’ts. No formal shoes. No rolled-up skinny jeans. No wool pants – the rolls won’t stay. No bootleg pants, which should be burned anyway. And since rolled pants are meant to look casual, nothing about the outfit should be dressy, at the risk of looking too studied. While you’re at it, stop trying so hard.

Jim Moore, the creative director of GQ, said the goal should be to look nonchalant, since you don’t want to make the roll so perfect that it draws attention. “The roll has to feel a bit unintentional,” he said.

Given the unlikelihood of accidentally rolling up one’s pants, Moore offered some clarification: “You have to channel Johnny Depp for that moment and ask yourself, ‘How would Johnny Depp roll up the bottom of his pants?”’

If you still can’t figure it out, you might ask Depp about shorts.

If you ask the people around you, they’re usually split into 2 camps: The self-conscious “don’t forget your socks” group and the sartorially forward “Croc sandal men think I’m gay” group. I belong to neither. In fact, there’s so much venom for the latter that the former even has a facebook group dedicated to their cause.

While I consider myself an aficionado for a fine looking pair of shoes (and according to the girlfriend, an “avid collector”), I hardly feel like a fashion maven. Truth is, when it comes to style stories, I’d rather leave them in the hands of my betters like fellow editors Jeremy Gopalan or Janie Cai.

I do enjoy however a nice pair of loafers. Available in luxurious suede or oh-so-supple leather, to me, loafers while worn sockless are the ultimate expression of dandyism. It conveys an effortless sense of devil-may-care, a touch of sartorial sensitivity and paired with blazer and pocket square, an instantly head turning casual yet luxuriously formal look. A contradiction of terms perhaps, but a look at wealthy Californian tycoon-yacht captains will tell you that I’m right.

Here’s the best part, poor person like myself don’t have to be rich to afford that $1000 look. A pair like the ones you see before you? lolz

5 Simple Loafer Wearing Rules

  1. It’s meant to convey an upscale look. No t-shirt and jeans unless paired with afore mentioned blazer and pocket handkerchief.
  2. It’s always great with khaki or Bermudas.
  3. When wearing pants and if you absolutely insist on wearing socks, make them black socks. I prefer no socks with pant cuffs rolled up.
  4. When paired with shorts and Bermudas, NO SOCKS ever. Period.
  5. Always, ALWAYS care for your loafers

bape-stussy-iphone-4-cases Zozo has worked on their new Design Project Volume 2, in which they have asked brands and stores that are part of their network to create iPhone 4 Cases. The two most interesting ones to us are the cases by A Bathing Ape and Stussy. Bape presents a classic Bape camo case and Stussy used their 30th anniversary artwork.
